UDZUNGWA NATIONAL PARK
Dotting the eastern arc mountains, udzungwa is coined the African archipelago. It’s characteristic of high trees measuring up to 30 metres where such sun dappled glades find refuge. The canopy here is uninterrupted from 250m to 1000m, armed with 400 endemic bird species like the green headed Oriole, six primate species and breathtaking Sanje waterfall plummeting 170m through a misty spray into a densely forested valley below. The 1991 discovery of a genus of forest partridge whose close cousin is not African but Asian, the 1979 Sanje crested mangabey discovery a valued addition to the list of primates together with the Iringa red Colobus exist nowhere else in the world. Your travel itinerary will be incomplete without udzungwa.
