12 Days Uganda Primates Safari - Gorilla Tracking, Chimps & other Primates Trekking Safari

Day One: ARRIVAL - CITY TOUR

A representative from Eco Royal Voyages will meet you at the airport and take you to the proposed accommodation site in Kampala.  If you arrive in the morning it’s advisable to change the money then you can visit some exciting places with the help of the driver/guide. Places to visit may include; Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, Kasubi Tombs, Bahai temple, Makerere University, the Uganda museum among others, or the Ndere cultural centre for an evening in the cultural dances. Over night at Cassia Lodge / Holiday Express Hotel.

Day Two: KAMPALA - KIBALE

Wake up early in the morning and head to Kibale through Mubende road have lunch enroute and arrive late in the afternoon. Take a walk on Bigodi swamp to search for variety of bird species like the White-winged Warbler, Papyrus Gonolek and many more not forgetting the flora.  Have dinner and spend the night at Luxury-Ndali safari lodge Uganda in Fort portal /Mid range- Rwenzori View Guest House / Basic- Kanyankyu ecological site.

Day Three: KIBALE - QENP

Enjoy the morning with a cup of tea as you set off for a nature walk in Kibale forest/NP that is commonly accepted for an exceptional diversity of primates in the Great Lakes region. Take the walk in the tropical rainforest, to hunt for wild chimpanzees with trained guides. Have lunch and in the afternoon transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park passing through the crater lakes region with over 30 crater lakes to be explored- to have a panorama of enticing terrain. Retire for dinner and a night at Myeya safari lodge or Institute of Ecology FB.

Day Four: WILDLIFE, GAME DRIVE AND LAUNCH CRUISE

Early in the morning, embark on a game drive to search for the early risers and predators returning to their hide outs. This drive will reward you with animals such as; Elephants, Buffaloes, Hyenas, Hippos, not forgetting the King of the Jungle; the Lion and many more. Retire from the drive take late breakfast, arrest and lunch at Mweya Safari Lodge. Consequent to lunch, go for a boat cruise on the Kanzinga channel to view a number of Hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes and a variety of bird species both migrant and residents.  Spend the night Luxury -Mweya Safari Lodge / Jacana Safari Lodge/ Lake Kitandara camp/ Budget- institute of Ecology.

Day Five: MARAMAGAMBO FOREST WALKS

Early in the morning after a cup of Tea drive south east of the park to Maramagambo forest for a walk to view , the bat and the hunter’s cave, see the blue lake , get a close look at a number of bats, the rock Pythons and the forest Cobras. Have an early lunch picnic in the forest and proceed to Kyambura gorge and take a walk in the gorge and Kyambura River where the game reserve derives its name.  This walk rewards you with a view of a great number of primates such as chimpanzees, Black and white Colobus monkeys and other animals like antelopes, water birds like the flamingos. Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi where you will reach in the evening in time for birding. Spend the night at Lake Bunyonyi Overland Camp /Arcadia cottages.

Day Six: BOAT RIDES ON LAKE BUNYONYI & ISLAND TOURS

Go for a boat ride at Bunyonyi in dug out canoes. Dotted with at least 20 small islands and encircled with by steep terraced hills, Bunyonyi is a magical spot worth exploring. After the boat cruise have lunch and embark on any activity of your choice such as a swim, leisure walks and mountain biking with bikes available at the camps for hire. Have dinner and spend the night at Lake Bunyonyi Overland Camp / Arcadia Cottages.

Day Seven: LAKE BUNYONYI - BWINDI GORILLA PARK

Early morning, drive to Bwindi and arrive at mid morning. Relax, have lunch, dinner and spend a night at Lake Kitandara luxury tented camp or Basic - Buhoma community bandas.

Day Eight: MOUNTAIN GORILLA TRACKING IN THE IMPENETRABLE FOREST

Depart for the long awaited escapade of Gorilla tracking in the Bwindi Impenetrable forest. Gorilla tracking being  unpredictable, it is difficult to estimate how long you may take in the jungle; however the excursion may take 2-8 hours depending on the movement of the closest living relatives of Man. It is therefore advisable to have packed lunch. It all depends on the movement of these great apes. However despite the hardships involved in trying to track the apes, "The exhilaration of seeing the gorillas makes it all worthwhile!”.  Have dinner and a night at Lake Kitandara luxury tented accommodation or Basic - Buhoma community bandas.

Day Nine: BWINDI GORILLA PARK – LAKE MBURO SAFARI PARK

Early after breakfast head to Lake Mburo National Park to reach in the evening and embark an evening game drive in search for; Buffaloes, Topes, Water buck and not forgetting the Eland, (the largest of the Antelopes found in Uganda). Spend the night at; Luxury- Mantana Luxury Tented Camp or drive to Mbarara at Agip Motel or basic at Rwonyo rest camp.

Day Ten: WILDLIFE, GAME DRIVES - KAMPALA

Early this morning, you will take a cup of coffee if you want and embark on a game drive in the park to catch up with the early risers and predators returning to their hide outs. Retire for a late break fast to your accommodation and a boat cruise on the Lake.  This afternoon head to Kampala and stop by the Equator for shots and proceed to your Hotel in Kampala.

Day Eleven: KAMPALA CULTURAL, RELIGIOUS & HISTORICAL SITES

Greet the sunrise with a cup of coffee breakfast and explore the Uganda’s capital city which starting at 0830hrs. Expedite the biggest and only religious temple building of its kind in Africa –the Bahai temple- it is a good site for picnic with good scenery, placed rightly on the hill that gives you a view of the city.

Pass by Makerere University the oldest university in Africa as you leave the Temple. Then proceed to the Uganda meuseum-– a historical feature with lots of colonial, cultural and traditional collections. You may decide to pass by Kasubi tombs - The largest vault in Africa and special burial place for Uganda kings with the largest Banda in the whole world. You will be given a brief history about the tombs by the guide or other guides at the tombs. You can have your dinner at Speke Hotel Kampala / Hotel Africana for excellent services. (Note that these places will only and only be visited if they were missed on day one of your safari).

Day Twelve: Kampala Shopping & Fly Out

Depending on the time of your flight, have a voyage before the Airport transfer.  If interested in shopping crafts around Kampala town you do it depending on the time of your flight back.
