Herd of buffalos

Bordering Sudan, remarkable habitat for dry land species not found anywhere in Uganda, spectacular walking safaris as well as day and night drives.With some of
the most breathtaking scenery in East Africa. Wooded Savannah landscape and a rugged horizon. Perennial waters attract large number of Elephants and thousands of buffalo herds. Outstanding birds of prey are some of the prominent residents say Verreaux’s eagle, Egyptian Vulture, pygmy falcon and about four hornbill species .Mountain forests in high places but comparatively low hills and inselbergs are common. Visitors will see diverse animal’s species; bat eared fox, lesser kudu, dikdik, Aardwolf, Burchell, Cape buffalo and black backed Jackal among others.

Hiking is also prominent, cultural performances as well as Karimojong jewellery can be collected. Also here in Moroto Karamoja were the fossilized 20 million year old remains of Morotopithecus the earliest known ancestor of modern apes and humans excavated in the 1960s.They are now housed in the national museum in Kampala.

Where to stay: Apoka lodge, Apoka rest camp, Kakine campsite

Activity: Game drives, hiking, Dry land Safari with 4x4s but easily accessible by air from Entebbe. Tours can be tailored according to need.
